For my birthday, my Handsome Hubby organized a trip to Flagstaff, near the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona. We go there sometimes in the summer to escape the heat of the desert and sometimes we visit in the winter to play in the snow. Yes, it snows in Arizona. Northern Arizona actually has four seasons and is at a higher elevation than the rest of the state. So, we rented a tiny cabin for the weekend and went to enjoy the changing colors of the leaves and some great fall weather.
If you've ever been on a trip with me, you will realize early on that I pack a lot; especially when I will be doing the cooking. This is a picture of our "luggage": Bins full of games and kitchen stuff, extra blankets and pillows, cooler for food, bag for Baby Boy, and a bag for my clothes and toiletries. My hubby and not-so-little man brought a single bag each. I don't know how they do that!
We made reservations at the Air Force Recreation Area, Ft. Tuthill. It is for military families and a great place to stay. The first thing we did when we got there was to play on the playground. Not-so-little man is such a great big brother, he helped Baby boy with his courage to slide by himself.
Here's a picture of our one-room cabin. Though it was quaint and cozy, i think next time we will get a cabin with a bedroom or two. This multi-purpose room made nap time and bed time pretty difficult.
I came prepared with a batch of chili for the crock pot. I put it in around lunch time and we had a hot dinner to warm our bodies after playing in the chilly (no pun intended) weather.
Our new favorite snack was a must. We've only recently discovered the yummy goodness that is Sun Butter. We don't have allergies in household, and this is not commonly on grocery shelves. When I did see it, I thought I'd give it a try. Delish!! I really could just sit and eat this with a spoon.
Our second day was a bit rainy, but we went on a hike to get out of the cabin. Baby Boy found a walking stick and didn't let go of it the rest of the trip. Oh, and yes, he's on a "leash". Let me tell you, I used to be one of those parents who judged others who had their kids on one of these contraptions, saying, "how could you put your kid on a leash!?". Then, God gave me Baby Boy. This kid won't hold your hand and HAS to go in the direction of danger, at all times. I finally broke down and got the leash.
Here's a great pic of my boys. Aren't they handsome?
The next day was BEAUTIFUL and what's that on the mountains... snow! The rain had turned to snow overnight, and now we had a beautiful sunny day to enjoy the snow. We didn't spend much time in the cabin this day.
Not-so-little-man's first snowball of the season. This snowball was targeted for Handsome Hubby.
I was happy just to walk around and take pictures of the snow-covered pine trees and the beautiful yellow and orange aspens.
This was Baby boy's first time in the snow and he loved it. I loved his little hat, the ears were just too cute not to take a picture.
What a beautiful landscape. God is such an artist!
We enjoyed the rest of our day playing in the snow and walking through beautiful forests.
I couldn't help but thank God for my many blessings.
Seeing the beauty in God's creation helped me to see the beauty in me, even the beauty in my imperfections. For I am a creation of God, beautifully and perfectly made.

Your baby's bear hat is just precious! I LOVE it. Sounds like you had an awesome weekend away. I'm with you and I love escaping to the cooler weather every chance I get.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary :) Funny thing is that the weather cooled to just about perfect here in the valley that weekend! We enjoyed the snow though, that was a great treat.
DeleteLooks like a fun trip and so beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing it on "I Gotta Try That Monday" linky party. Have a great day!
